House Factory

High Quality Log Houses

Kuusamo Log Houses is a Finnish wood processing company producing a large varieety of log buildings such as holiday homes, villas, cottages and saunas. Our business idea is to competitively produce high quality log houses specified to the customer’s requirements, and to provide related planning services.

The harsh climate of in Northern Finland forces the pines to grow slowly. As a result of this, the trees produce very tight ringed timber that has excellent strength, fantastic structural propeties and low moisture content. Thaks to our location near the Arctic Circle, we are able to use this highly durable redwood pine as our major raw material.

Take a look at our wide range. We will gladly answer any queries you may have and make you an offer from our standard range, individually modified range, or based on your own designs.

Kuusamo Log Houses

In addition to having detached houses, the company’s range of products includes holiday homes, saunas, cabins and a variety of outbuildings. The majority of our log buildings, approximately 80 %, are sold on the domestic markets; exports account for around 20 %.

Ecological houses from the world’s strongest wood
We produce wooden houses for our customers and provide the services required for construction planning.
The harsh climate of Northern Finland forces the trees to mature slowly, giving a compact and dense material. This wood has unique structural properties with low moisture content.

We are members of the Polkky group, the most important sawmill in Northern Finland. Our combined turnover is in excess of 113 million Euros.

Our harvest system is based around the principles of sustainable forest management. Our good relationship and long term cooperation with the local forest owners ensures a plentiful supply of raw material.

SCOTS PINE

Our raw material is machined from Scots Pine. This type of pine grows in the northern latitudes and its quality is determined by slow growth which is determined by the harsh climatic conditions and ideal soil types. Our raw material comes from well managed, sustainable forests in northern Finland.

Main features: Small knots, very tight ring formation, high tensile strength and low moisture. This makes the wood naturally darker and is often referred to as redwood.

LOG SYSTEM

The most traditional feature of a log building are the corner joints and Kuusamo Log Houses has many different systems of joints and corners at their disposal when designing a log building, such as long or short angle, 45 °, dovetail, etc…

Our technology allows us to design bespoke houses suited to the needs of each individual client. All our models can be built to incorporate almost any angle. The versatility of the logs as a building material facilitates modern architecture and design.

If you like the idea of designing or building your log home, there are two types of profile to choose from, a round or rectangular profiled log (also called level or square). Both profiles are also available as a solid log or a laminated log. The choice of one or the other will determine the look of your home, but not its functionality.

They are structurally very similar and have the same thermo-acoustic properties. They also provide the  originality and authenticity of the log construction method and satisfy the environmental regulations of the European Union.

CUT SYSTEM

The  high-tech CNC system allows the  frame components to be cut to an exact pre-determined size and angles! They are notched and numbered and with the help of the detailed constructional drawings, can be erected in a relatively short space of time.

This cut system behaves exactly as a real log building would behave. The structure of the wall, along with the wood-fibre insulation, allows the building to breathe in the same way as a solid log building would. It helps to stabilise indoor air humidity by absorbing excess moisture and releasing it when needed, therefore creating a constant supply of fresh air which is beneficial to people with respiratory problems like asthma.

The wood fibre used for the insulation material is very effective. It helps to maintain a stable temperature and is also an excellent acoustic insulation The structure and composition of the wall meets the stringent insulation requirements in most parts of Europe.  The wood fibre insulation is not combustible and is therefore safe against fire.

The exterior and interior designs are totally bespoke and are manufactured to suit the clients demands. Cut System structures can be used to build the house of your dreams. The timber frame system also allows the construction of larger houses with excellent structural properties.

For the exterior you are able to choose from a variety of material finishes, including wood, brick, natural stone, lime plaster, laminates HPL (Trespa or Werzalit) or other finish.

The interior walls too can have a chosen finish, or you could combine different materials with the wooden structure, which means you can use wood, plasterboard panel (drywall) or other material.
